LAPL is the academic arm of the IDL. Established in 2009 the Academy has progressed steadily with about 10-12 programmes/workshops being conducted annually.
The programs of the Academy is need driven and apply itself primarily to the task of strengthening centrist liberal forces in the country mainly thru provision of practical skills. Academy has a part of its program devoted to liberal policy which primarily mean acquainting leaders and key personnel within the political parties and other centrist groups at provincial and national level with the basics of liberal policy in various fields such as economy, development, social policy, inter-ethnic cooperation , employment &education.
In the longer term the academy aims at becoming avenue for the development of liberal policy in those areas.
This would in the future pave way for the Academy to play an important role not only in strengthening the centre ground but also in ’inserting liberal principles’ into Sri Lankan politics.
The Institute for Democracy & Leadership (IDL) provides the institutional framework for the Academy
